2009 Aussie Millions

The event started on January 17th 2009 at the Crown Gold poker room in Melbourne, Australia and many of the top FullTiltPoker.com pro players we’re present including Phil Ivey, John Juanda, Gus Hansen and Chris Ferguson. There we’re also some players in the tournament that none of you will know yet, but there we’re some impressive results from some unknowns.
The event had a first place prize of $1.2 million which everyone was looking to battle for and it made for some awesome action. The event had a twist which was that instead of being a regular no limit tournament the tournament was played with pot limit action before the flop and then no limit for the rest of the hand. It didn’t stop pots from becoming very large on the first day of action and many of the big names we’re knocked out of the tournament quickly.

On the first day of the event the action was very fast paced and by the end of the day there we’re only six players left to compete for the $1.2 million. Many of the poker professionals who started the event on the first day didn’t make it to the second day although a couple recognizable names made the final table. By the end of the first day the six players who we’re moving onto the second and final day we’re as followed.

· Bill Jordanou – $139,000
· Tony Bloom – $181,000
· Dan Shak – $356,000
· John Juanda – $480,000
· JC Tran – $528,000
· David Steicke – $631,000

The second day didn’t start with the same pace as the first day and it took over two hours before anyone was eliminated from the final six players. David Steicke from Full Till who was leading to start day two went down the second day, but battle back and knocked every player out of the tournament except for one. David took home the first place prize pool of $1.2 million which is a nice chunk of change. Steicke had to battle through a very tough competition in this highrollers event to win first place and he showed many people that he has what it takes to win a big tournament. I know not many of you will have heard of Steicke, but with this recent win I hope to see him playing in some more events in the WSOP. The highrollers event is always an event at the Aussie Millions that the pros want to win, but this year seen a hungry unknown take down the championship.
